Um, he was talking about 1968, not 1972. Nixon was elected in 1968 and RE-elected in 1972.
Of the 1968 Presidential Election Wikipedia says: "Nixon won a plurality of the popular vote by a narrow margin, but won by a large margin in the Electoral College, carrying most states outside of the Northeast."
So again I say: sounds familiar. LOL
