The Palestinians were living in Palestine. That's why they're called "Palestinians".
Then a bunch of religious fanatics from Europe descended on Palestine, kicked out the Palestinians, and created a homeland.
I think the American Indian situation is more analogous to the Jews who are claiming that their people lived there 2,000 years ago and thus they have a right to the land.
