A guard at New Orleans' jail was booked on allegations Tuesday that she had sexual contact with an inmate and brought drugs into the lockup, WWL-TV reported.
Jail records show Oshen Heilman, 25, was booked on three counts of sexual battery, sexual malfeasance in prison, illegal possession with intent to distribute marijuana and pharmaceuticals, and nine counts of introducing contraband to a prison or jail. WWL-TV reported that Heilman was arrested Tuesday when she showed up for work, citing multiple sources.
WWL-TV reported that Heilman has spent the last 18 months or so working as a deputy with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, the agency that runs the city's jail, the Orleans Justice Center. She is now suspended, WWL-TV said.
Her assignment guarding a direct supervision jail pod brought her into regular contact with inmates, who can't legally consent to sex, WWL-TV said.
Heilman is the second OPSO deputy to be arrested since Saturday. In an unrelated case, authorities on Saturday arrested Dernisha Harvey on a count of abuse of office following allegations that she pulled out her Sheriff's Office badge and threatened to arrest two customers who refused to pay $40 for alcohol shots she sold them at her second job at a Bourbon Street daiquiri shop over the weekend.
Harvey was suspended following her arrest.
