My understanding is that the guy was from Texas and in Arizona for a short time working. He was a pest control/exterminator. Apparently, he had a few people over to his hotel room, they were drinking, and the guy showed his friends a couple of pellet guns he uses for rats etc on the job. Someone saw the guy with the air rifle and called the front desk and they called the police. When the police arrived, they called him out of the room and the video takes it from there.
During the trial, he said he was afraid the guy was reaching for a gun. He was unarmed and the defense said the guy was trying to pull his shorts up. The shooter is no longer a cop, but he was found not guilty of murder.
