Hi Sincats,

I didn't say we know for sure. I said there's no evidence that proves anyone's stories that what anyone ever saw, in all of our history, is an alien spaceship.

Of course we do. Gravity is a force of any body, planetary or otherwise, that draws obects towards it's center. We can see it, we can measure it, we can see its effects on other obects. It explains why our own bodies have weight, and it explains why things orbit our planet, and how our planet orbits the sun along with all of the other planets. It's a natural thing.

(Speaking of weight, here's a cool idea. If you stand on a scale and it says 180lbs, it is measuring the force of earths gravity is pulling you towards it. But if you turn the scale upside down and stand on it, it will measure the force of YOUR gravity's pull against the earth! In other words, the mass & gravity of your body is gently pulling our giant planet towards your center.

Of course we can. Every obect of every size, has gravity. The problem is that you need alot of mass to have anything of real use. The earth itself is very massive as you know, but you can jump straight up a foot or so with only the energy in your own legs. Despite the earth's size, its force of gravity is weak.

If you are talking about replicating gravity for use in space travel, you're right - you can't replicate gravitiy easily because the amount of mass required makes this impractical. What you can do instead is SIMULATE gravity.

The movie 2001 kinda sort had the right idea with the big spinning wheel. It would not work the way you saw in the movie, but it would be practical for some applications.

Artificial gravity would have some advantages but it wouldn't help get people from here to there any faster.

To go really fast, you need some really exotic technology. You need a propulsion system that can get us to nearly the speed of light, or you need a way to bend space, or create a warp bubble (you stay still, but space moves past you). There are some cool videos about this. Do a google search for "Nasa Warp Drive" to learn more. It's freaking cool.

Cheers!
