No, you are wrong.
A rifle is used for hunting and target practice. An assault rifle is used to assault a position and kill people. The rate of fire has nothing to do with it. The AR15 I have here in my house is the same exact weapon I trained with in the Marines - the only difference is the rate of fire, a handful of parts. The way it's handled and what it's used for is the same.
It's like saying a Ferrari isn't a Ferrari if you take off the Z rated tires. It's still a Ferrari no matter what wheels you have on it.

Except for a handful of parts, they are the EXACT same weapon.
