I do not like state intervention either...but it some cases it is necessary...like gun control...sometimes the state must simply draw the line and not give the people what they want...but only sometimes...
you must look at debt in a macro-economic way...for example in serbia a good part of the population is in debt slavery...I would say 100.000 people...it is super easy to get people hooked on free money, I know personal responsibility should count for something, but offer people free money and they always act the same...state regulation of debt and lending is absolutely necessary IMO or a big part of the population will be working just to pay off bank loans....these people will not participate in the economy but will only work to pay off debt...this is bad for everybody...
now imagine this on a shit scale in china....they have 1billion + citizens...imagine the shitstorm if 200million were in debt...
sometimes the state must step in...
