the thing is, its an obvious truth that doesn't need to be spoken. of course being in the military there is a chance you will be killed. of course if you smoke for 20 years there is a good chance you will get cancer. everyone knows this. the idea that it must be said to someone to re-enforce the pain and loss they are going through is not necessary and cruel.
