I don't see any problem with self protecting weapon (shotguns and semiautomatic riffles). As I said above they are legally sold in my country as well (even via Internet). The thing I don't understand is why assault riffles are available for the US civilians. Why not
BM-30 Smerch for example?

Ok, go and try to kill 100 people with a knife. Have you been to army? Do you understand what is an automatic assault riffle and how is it different to a knife or even to any civilian/hunting/self protecting weapon?
