I don't doubt that figure is accurate.
It's all the worms and the people not using firewalls of any kind.
Get the
last freeware version of tiny personal firewall install it & go directly into your DSL/Cable modem (don't use your router/firewall device if you have one)
Use it like that for an hour and count the number of access attempts to your box.
Then plug your hardware firewall back in... and if you don't have one, get one
Most people go directly into their cable/dsl/dialup modems, without ANY firewalls... so when these worms come along they get just hacked.
