We've got a 951 (basically an older version of the 953) as well as a Sony VX2000 and a couple small single chip Sony's. The 951 is a good came for outdoor use, but it's not great for indoor, as the aperture doesn't seem to let enough light in, even when on set with about 2000 watts of lighting blasting the bed/couch/whatever...What we found was that the video come out flat, and lacking color, depth and contrast.
For outdoor it's great. Indoor...eh, not so good.
If it were me, I'd try and find a second hand Canon GL1 or splurge a bit and get a GL2...
