RAID won't save you from issues with the file system (corruption, accidentally deleted a file) and it also won't save you if something really drastic happens, like the destruction of both drives due to an electrical surge, earthquake, fire etc.

1. RAID is for availability, to allow the server to continue functioning even when a drive fails. (If you have hotswap bays, you can replace the drive without having to reboot)
2. Offsite backups with multiple snapshots are for when the shit REALLY hits the fan
