The fallacy in this is selling imported manufactured goods creates jobs selling those goods to buyers that can now afford them. It's called a post-industrial age economy. Post-industrial age businesses sell services, technical know how and advanced machinery to developing countries economies.

Defense spending is the exception to the rule -- the manufacture of defense procurements, goods and materials, is heavily subsidized for security reasons -- the prices of those goods are inflated for that reason primarily. You cannot apply these restrictions to consumer goods in a capitalist economy.
