That's because Russian and Ukrainian villages are literally dead. There is no job, no money and no perspectives. Only old people and alcoholics live there. Everyone else has moved to big cities already. Just FYI: about 20% of all Russian population lives in Moscow + Spb only (don't even mention other large cities). A typical Russian or Ukrainian village looks like a desert from the Mad Max movie.
