It certainly distracts. I saw a video of Sean Spicer and a reporter today arguing over what the word wiretap means.
Trump lies or in some cases just makes ignorant statements without bothering to check the facts first then he refuses to back down from them and it puts his staff in the position of having to defend him. It's like trying to explain to your new girlfriend that your uncle really isn't a crazy racist, he's just eccentric.
