why...are you too young to remember being unable to walk down 42nd street without getting hustled, harrassed or outright mugged? how about taking a dump in grand central in the 80s, obviously you never had that lovely experience. all stalls taken for the crackheads!
although, i do look back at the koch/dinkins era with some fondess...the dirt, the grit, that smell...i particularly miss the graffiti subway cars.
