I have a US Passport, my father served in the US Army with Patton in the second world war. My grandfathers where nationalized US citizens that immigrated from Tsarist Russia. My paternal grandmother was a natural born US citizen of German-Jewish parentage.

If people are here illegally and have family to guarantee their support they should be granted residency on humanitarian grounds and be self supporting -- that should be the *american way*
If people are here illegally with no apparent means of support (scab day workers) they should be deported.
If people are here and working , for over 2 years, and paying taxes I see no reason why they should not be given residency permits -- they are gainfully employed and taxpayers  |
You are exactly right on pretty much everything, I agree law abiding immigrants here that work and produce, don't commit crimes should be allowed to become FULL citizens. But what about those that commit crimes 3 and 4 times, get deported then come right back and do the same thing again? Also what do we do with the huge influx of immigrants from the south? Keep allowing the 1 million plus per year to come? It's complicated I know, but we have to have a legal pathway that all those people can take so for one, they don't get taken advantage of and two we can keep track of our citizens too (get them SS cards, get them into the sytem etc.).
