If there is a equitable settlement of the areas of US and Russian disputes I would have no problem with Russian-US oil trade at fair world prices. Problem is; Smaller country's interests can not be traded off between Russian and US spheres of interest -- we cannot trade off other nations sovereignty toward some chess game advantage.

But all of this is far too complex for capitalists and oligarchs to negotiate -- this is not just about the money. A peaceful borders policy in Eastern Europe would be agreement to reach. Followed by the elimination of all short range missiles deployed on the borders would be a good-faith first step. We don't need some renegade Colonel starting WW3.

Nobody wins in that scenario.

... Watch for a counterweight of sanity, the nominee for defense secretary, retired Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis. On Thursday, he broke with Trump, saying the United States must confront Putin and should try to make the Iran nuclear deal work. You know we?re in trouble when the only reasonable voice during a week of capital chaos is a man whose nickname is Mad Dog.
