How commonplace is it to charge a customer for needed ram upgrades? As in, instead of them just adding it, I need to purchase the ram.
In dedicated hosting? That's how it goes. The resource cost them money, so it costs you money.

How commonplace is it for a hosting company to charge you for a switch? I had to buy this 6k juniper switch when we were getting attacked because the switch they had us on was 2 basic d link switches. I'm just curious as to your opinions. If I'm wrong please tell me. If I'm right please let me know too. I feel like I'm being bent over a keg.
That's a bit different. Do you own the router now? Doesn't sound like you're dealing with a good hosting company if they thought d-link switches were suitable infrastructure for critical use. A highend Juniper switch can also cost a good penny depending on the model. What model Juniper switch did they deploy?
