He was out of the home and staying with a friend of my family by the time I started giving him reading lessons. They thought of me because they knew I was a bookworm. Also the friends of the family he stayed with for a couple of years got him involved in a UU church, and various people took him under their wing.
Anyway, all things considered, the kid is doing remarkably well now. He's 17, normal weight (he was morbidly obese & hypertense at 14), caught up to his grade level in school, and making good grades.
His parents were just despicable. I had alot of long conversations with him, and he is probably the worst abuse case I've ever heard of... and it wasn't physical at all. They never laid a hand on him apparently, but they mindfucked him and neglected him so badly that he would have been in the ground by 20 had he continued on the path they set him in.
