This is just it - People say "this shouldn't happen" but have no idea what really goes on in the real world.
Police officers have dozens of interactions a day and most of them go smoothly. Yet every day they get hit, punched, kicked, smacked, bit, hair pulled, and spit on. You have to remember police officers are dealing with the bottom 5% or 10% of society. Dealing with criminals that are strung out on drugs constantly day after day grinds you down. If you deal with this hundreds or thousands of times a year, it's only a matter of time before something goes wrong.
Is is sad, tragic, and horrible this man died? Of course it is. But if he wasn't strung out on drugs and listened to police officers, he would surely be alive today.
