No, the real reason is so Apple can charge you $20 for a USB cable. Meanwhile you can buy them for Android as cheap as $5.
It's same reason they are doing away with this jack. They can then charge you $20 for a adapter that plugs into the Apple mini connector.
Everything about apple = rip ff dumb people.
