LOS ANGELES -- Friends won't be back after next year, but one Friend will.

Matt LeBlanc will star as Joey, his character in the wildly popular sitcom, in a Friends spinoff tentatively titled Joey, for fall 2004.

NBC president Jeff Zucker made the surprise announcement Thursday at the semi-annual gathering of the Television Critics Association.
