Each person enlisting in an armed force shall take the following oath:
''I, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.''
I took that oath more than once and lived by that oath for 12 years and would still be living by that oath if I had not been injured in the first gulf war.
If the draft is ever re-instituted...and it will be if we ever engage in a large war again...Americans will then once again have to take that oath, or serve five years in prison, or leave the country.
Tens of thousands chose to leave the country during the Vietnam era and fucking President Carter gave them a pardon allowing them to return....somthing that I would never have done.
