A used Rolex is where i would look. 1k doesnt buy much, perhaps a 70's to 80's stainless steel datejust. If your looking to spend $1k and dont want depreciation, the used market is the place. New watches, any brand, will be worth less right after you take them out of the box. Another area to consider is a 50's -60s Rolex bubbleback or a datejust. 1k sure puts the brakes on alot of options unfortunately.

I doubt if you will find a decent bubble for a K , unless its a hacked up piece of shit with a refinished dial. And you are right any of the fashion watches are worth 10cents on the dollar cash value. I had a really nice Swiss Army Auto Chrono last week.(sold for 450) While it is not a great brand it will keep up to a lot of use and abuse, the guy paid a 1000 for it new. This is the top of the line for This manufacturer. Something you may want to check out. But @the risk of repeating myself, do not buy a quartz watch.
