You don't have to defend the city, but you're sitting there defending the city right now. My statements bother you because you know that there is truth to them, and it bothers you. The truth hurts. You've lived in a boring run down city for 40 years and you know it, and that obviously bothers you. It would bother me too, but then I would have probably moved away.
