As much as I'm on the record as disliking Trump, it would be a suicide of the GOP to do that if Trump had the support to be the nominee. Sure the GOP & the Democrat party can nominate whoever they want, but the general guidelines are that they pick the guy who has won the various states and holds the most support from the people in the party.
If the GOP did that, they would tear apart their party and you can bet Trump would then run as an Independent crushing any chance at all of a Republican win.
What something like this will come down to, is would they rather have Hillary as the president or Trump. If they try to steal the nomination away from Trump if he still hold the majority support, then it would certainly give Hillary the win.
Nothing would surprise me at this point though because the Democrat party has pretty much screwed Sanders out of any chance of the nomination by opening working hand and hand with Hillary.
