Now why didn't you just point that out, instead of making shit up about my viewpoint and being the usual dicksplash you are? I've no problem admitting when I'm wrong, and seems I was given wrong info, either accidentally, or maybe it was on purpose the way groups do to further their cause. I had a look and found this article I said Uber was better than London's black cabs. And then it all kicked off... - Telegraph and they have a disclaimer at the bottom after the article was amended, so it seems it's a common misconception. Nevertheless, my bad on taking it at face value. A worthwhile line in that article though is (my bold):

Quote:
your key competitive advantage is that you avoid the regulations others are bound by and the taxes they pay.
And THAT is the whole crux of my points.. not whether uber is 'good' or not, of course it fucking is to the end user - but to actually place myself in the other viewpoint, and try to understand *why* black cab drivers and minicab drivers alike here in the UK where we don't have mafia-controlled cab companies and all the rest of it you seem to have where you are, are so up in arms. In fact it's only just dawned on me you are most likely sitting there with the false idea that I'm somehow against uber themselves.

A bit like trying to explain to surfers *why* we in the adult industry are up in arms over piracy, when all they know is: it's legal porn with paid performers and they can go to a multitude of torrent sites/filelockers/illegal tubes and stuff themselves silly with a fantastic delivery method. Until the surfer actually puts himself on the side of production, he has zero idea about the costs involved, the differing legalities, and the constraints a paysite has as opposed to those eg a filelocker has.

So... take off crb checks as misguided hysteria by whomever, and that leaves licencing fees as laid down by the (UK, and from this thread it seems, also AUS) gov't, and set fares for 1 group of people but not for the other. I'm sure those adhering to TFL and their local council regs would love to be able to compete with Uber in a true free market, the fact is though, they are unable to. *That* is why UK cab drivers are pissed off, and I can't blame them at all.
