That may result in him getting 25% of votes, democrat nominee getting 25% and republican nominee getting 50%. While without Hilary he would not even get those 25%.

I guess I am assuming that he will only get in if Hillary is forced out or is doing so badly she has no hope of winning. To me it would be a huge mistake to hitch your wagon to a toxic candidate in search of some votes. Sure, he might get some votes, but there are plenty of people out there who hate the Clintons and would not vote for him simply because of her presence. I think it would do him more harm than good.
He could find a VP that might appeal to moderates of both parties in hopes of pulling in voters from both as opposed to taking on a VP that might help him with the Democrats, but likely will hurt him with Republicans and many independents.
