At least he does something for charity too. Personally I don't mind people like this as long as they aren't arrogant, and they didn't seem arrogant, they are just showy.
However, I could never contemplate spending $4.5k on a handbag (as a gift lol), as I don't think it's good value!!
I think people getting funny in Europe has a lot to do with the weather. Once you get to California it's sunny and everyone feels happier, so they have better things to do than envy other people.
