Sounds to me like the media and the RNC are trying to get people to "fear" Trump more than anything else.
Would it be effective to tell terrorists that if they commit an act of terrorism against the U.S.A. that we will not only find them and kill them but we will kill their wife in whatever shithole country they're in too?
