Detlev G, who works for Saxony's State Office of Criminal Investigation, allegedly hooked up with his 59-year-old victim after meeting him on a seedy Internet forum.
The pair reportedly chatted online "for some time" before agreeing to get together in early November.
Initial reports suggest the victim, who has not been named but was from Hanover, was willing to be killed and consumed.
