Well I am director of different cam sites since 10+ years and I never seen 1 single new pay user "really found by a cam girl" and let signup into a cam site, by a cam girl. What the cam girls call "own marketing" or the concept of "indy cam girl", it is setting up a twitter or else site/account with same username they have in cam sites, in the hope that the cam site users (all of which bring by affiliates or cam site's own media buying) will google her name and find her outside the site. This is indirect stealing. Or, the model will "actively steal" the guy out of the cam site, i.e. passing links, skype accounts or whatever. If the site allows or is unable to monitor, she will hardcode the links - even more smart way as this model done, transforming affiliate links into her own links, not even needed to send the users elsewhere.

The good news for cam sites (but not for affiliates), it is that most models need a cam site anyway as "skype+paypal/western union" is not feasible or wanted by every user and/or model, so the models bounce the users between cam sites anyway. So if model1 steals 10 users from site A, she brings +10 users to site B (with her affiliate account, doubling her %). Also, model2 will steal 10 users from site B into site A. Do the math, this is ok for both site A and site B, as long as number of users stealing into, is at least equal to users stealed out.
For affiliates this is only bad news, because the model replaces all the times the affiliate ID of the affiliate with her own, in the process of bonce the user between sites (or, as this smart one, not even need to bounce betweem sites, but doing a live replace of affiliate id before of signup).
