Adamo are not the first company who have offered compensation for voting for them, they will not be the last company to do so either. It is why awards are not very meaningful these days.
Being nominated is almost better than winning, at least when you are nominated it means some people thought enough about you as a company to put your name down and you didn't have to beg/pay/scam votes just to get your name in a newsletter and a $50 trophy to put in your office.

I had a similar conversation with him.
I think the awards can be meaningful, companies and people that put together great marketing programs to support their nomination runs and such. The problem is so much of it is a popularity contest and things like buying votes makes the whole process dubious at best.
