Yunno what, I was thinking about it and it seems that PM Dawn started the whole hip hop R&B stuff. They came out before Mary J and Jodeci with the whole singing over a sample. Madonna comes a close second with Erotica. Both were before Mary and Jodeci who gets all the credit.
