I wouldn't want to see it legalized in the USA for a couple of
reasons.
Health insurance premiums would increase substantially.
Like it or not, gays are at greater health risk from a host
of expensive diseases. Through legal marriage, health
insurance would be extended to a previously uncovered
partner. The costs to the health insurance industry would
be staggering.
And we all know who would pay those costs.....Us!
Then there is the loss of revenue through state and federal
income taxes, given that gay partners would have the ability
take advantage of Married Filing Jointly status. Again, the
general public would eventually pay the shortfall.
