do u have a university with a veterinary school near you? they do more cutting edge aggressive treatment/surgery than a local vet will.

Not that i know of or can find online anyway no.
I will phone the vet back today and ask what the actual term for the condition was. I was probably already told but didn't take it in.
Basically what they suspected was wrong with the cat never showed up on the x-rays at all. They thought it was originally pelvic problems causing the pain. But the x-rays showed this build up of mass behind the eyes at the area of the brain, and it seems that is clearly where the problem lies.
To act on it would come with very, very high risks and cost (the cost of which doesn't bother me though). But it's because of the risks and the probability it wouldn't be a success anyway that the vet is basically ruling out operating.
Funny thing is, on the very strong meds yesterday and today, the cat seems much better. But she can't stay on those forever and they aren't actually correcting the problem anyway, which will only grow bigger and bigger...
