i understand what you have.
google likes clean sites which give their surfers content they click on
your model of site is old.. time of cj, blind links, redirects, misleading is over
if you want to be on top positions your sites have to be clean, you should make your surfers happy.
i hardly doubt switching back to your old design will get your se positions back
