In the USA the guy will be dead already. So nothing extra ordinal there. Here is a today's story from my country (the cop used a gun against a drunk guy who attacked him):
Police officer wounded a man in the Moscow metro.
Use of weapon against a civilian is a very outstanding situation here, so it's got viral today. But even in case of direct attack, nobody has died. And the cop was hospitalized with hypertensive crisis in hope to avoid possible sequences for using a gun in a public place. My country is non-democratic and not free, so cops here can't shoot civilians like they do it in the democratic and free countries of the 1st world.
