Depends on where you're coming from, If you're going from LA to SF it's less than 25 miles miles off the 101, get off the 101 in San Miguel and take Indian Valley Road to Vineyard Canyon Road.

Besides the great food in the cafe it's just kind of a unique place, Parkfield has a population of 18 people sitting right on the San Andreas Fault.
you have to cross the fault to get into the town
It has more earthquakes per year than pretty much any place else on earth.
There's a USGS Survey station, a rodeo grounds, a small lodge, a school and around 4 houses.
It's... peaceful
If you are coming up the 101 you can also take the 154 San Marcos Pass from Santa Barbara going toward the Santa Inez Valley and stop at another little hidden gem I recently found, Cold Spring Tavern on Old Stagecoach Road, Established 1865
