As far as working out your chest or any other part of your body; my favorite way to have a more intense workout is to do negative sets ..
For example when you push up on say a bar, another person pushes down on the weight stack or the bar and you try to resist against them ...just hard enough so you go through the rep slow. but ya can't do it everyday..

Pilates are pretty awesome...nice lean muscle, hehe not on me yet though...still working on that.
But its a pretty nice workout, focuses on the powerhouse...I think thats back, abs and butt area...
And I was pretty outta shape so it hurt like hell the day after...
the lil meat on my ribs even hurt! Still working at it!
