The number one item on a soldiers list of things to do is to bitch...this is the way of a soldier. Soldiers that bitch to the press and say the things that they said about their superiors will be officially reprimanded. Freedom of speech is not one of the previliges that a soldier has.
There are a few weaknesses in todays military.
1. They are family men. There was a time when the percentage of married personell in the military was small and for the most part only existed among career military. Now the percentage of those that are married and serving their first, and for many their last, enlistment is very high. Family and military are not compatible and effects the performance of soldiers.
2. Soldiers of today are allowed to live as part civilian and part soldier more than ever in the past. This became part of the norm for military life in order to keep the "All Volunteer Army" ranks filled. This creates a mind set that effects the performance of a soldier when called upon to be all soldier.
3. They expect to be rotated since rotation was introduced by the military and has become the norm when extended deployment is required. Rotation is good for morale but is not good for saving the lives of soldiers. It takes time to adjust to whatever situation a soldier is placed in. The soldier becomes experienced and hardened (in essence learns to do the job required of him) and then is rotated out and a green trooper is rotated in. He does not know shit...and this can cost him his life...or the lives of those around him.
