What's the profit of having high GDP is your government spend all that money to military-related shit instead of spending it to its own citizens (medicine, education)? GDP means nothing if its being spent to wars. I never understood people who loves when their government ass-rapes them for their own money (I pay 6% tax, how much do you pay?)

P.S. GDP is just a national product (which is a pretty controversial thing because all countries calculate it using their own formulas), divided by the number of citizens. So if 1/3 of the citizens have a lack of healthcare, then there is something very-very wrong with their country

P.P.S. If Russia will include corruption into GDP like the UK does with sex and drug money, our GDP will be at least 10 times higher. The same applies to so-called "black salary" which is not included into GDP
