If the potential for mistakes exists -- and it always does -- then the only professional approach is to give the account holder a chance to point out that a mistake has been made. And this is impossible if you will not disclose -- to him, not of course to us -- the reason for the closure. The specific reason.

That's obviously nonsense, given this thread. Anyone using your service has to worry that you'll mistakenly close their account without giving them the information they need to correct your mistake.

RuthB, you're a stellar customer service rep. There's nothing personal about this. But you're being asked to rep an unsupportable policy here, one that has recurred every month or two ever since your service gained prominence after the Epassporte debacle and that continues to undermine trust in your organization. Y'all should fix it.
