yeah, and working out can cause shin splints and knee strain, getting fresh air exposes one to smog (carcinogens!!!), watching one's weight can lead to anorexia, vodka can cause cirrhosis and going to the beach raises the risk of skin cancer. I know how I want to live, and it's not fleeing in fear from the things that make a day a bit more enjoyable

I wish I could smoke more often-every single (highly successful and high-functioning) person I par with does, but I'm neurotic and and way too fucking introspective for my own good so when I do I tend to sit in the corner silently and think for hours, not much of 'party' vibe. For that reason booze is my drug of choice when I hit a session/club, even though it's far more damaging to my body than herb. Still, in the right mood late at night it feels awesome, and is far less damaging than other socially acceptable substances like booze. I know a chica who died at 40 from varicose veins in her stomach (a common symptom amongst alcoholic women).

congrats on your sobriety (truly-that's huge and you should be damn proud of that accomplishment) but I don't think it's fair to equate the risks inherent to substance abuse with the casual usage of a fairly innocuous substance in the grand scheme of things. I suspect that as a recovering addict you look at weed smokers the same way I look at peeps who eat fast food. to me they're ingesting pure poison and I can't fathom anyone choosing to desecrate their bodies with that crap, but some people can handle it in moderation so props to em if they enjoy it. enjoying weed in moderation is different than the effects caused by an addiction-to anything. hell, I'm sure if I injected straight caffeine into my veins I'd run into problems, it's not just about what we ingest but how much of it, how often.

people who do nothing but smoke herb all day destroy their bodies and their minds, but that's about addiction, not the substance. the same can be said for alcoholics, over-eaters, gambling addicts, that weird tanning addict lady, shopping addicts, anyone who uses something of external origin to escape from their lives.
