Its probably against International Law. Maybe Geneva Convention or UN Convention on Torture? Im guessing because I can't remember the law in that specific area but if it has been broken then expect those cruel tactics to also be used against your own country armed forces...
As now, the US loses moral high ground and has a problem to criticize the use of torture by say other groups or countries and so on. I guess it causes big problems for the US legally and morally and sets some kind of precedent.
