How long did it take our ancestors to figure out how to create fire after they discovered natural fire (from lightning or volcanoes)? Maybe one of them discovered it by accident while making flint tools. How did ideas spread back then?

By mouth to mouth, as did stories too. For example like: "Akka bukka, akka bakka uga buga." Well, that was actually my conversation with my neighbour this morning, but I think you get the point.
Also probably many people discovered the same thing, not just on guy/girl.
