@crockett, yes I do know what The Patriot Act is.
A law that the fucking Congress passed to take away our freedoms because the country was so damn scared of "terrorism".
But the spying part? That's not written in the "law" crockett. That's just powers that the President decided they could have and under the Patriot Act.
And yes, the President CAN stop them.
But since you don't believe ME...maybe you will believe the PRESIDENT's OWN WORDS.
This is from the Jan. 17th speech that Pres. Obama gave about NSA spying:
"I maintained a healthy skepticism toward our surveillance programs after I became president. I ordered that our programs be reviewed by my national security team and our lawyers. And in some cases, I ordered changes in how we did business. We increased oversight and auditing, including new structures aimed at compliance. Improved rules were proposed by the government and approved by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. And we’ve sought to keep Congress continually updated on these activities.
What I did not do is stop these programs wholesale, not only because I felt that they made us more secure, but also because nothing in that initial review and nothing that I have learned since indicated that our intelligence community has sought to violate the law or is cavalier about the civil liberties of their fellow citizens."
Did you read that crockett? He said he did not "STOP THESE PROGRAMS"
Meaning...he could, he can, and he didn't.
