I have big hands and long fingers and when I was testing one out a couple of weeks ago, I too was concerned that it was too big. I wanted to put it in my front pant pocket and walk around with it but decided against that idea.
But then I tried typing with 2 thumbs as I usually do on my iPhone 5 and found it comfortable. I turned it to landscape mode and found it just as comfy too.
I played with the regular iPhone 6 for a while too in the same way and here's what I came back with:
The iPhone 6S is great to use for email and text and surfing and movies. The bigger screen is fantastic. It is like an iPad or iPad Mini, that fits in your pocket.
The iPhone 6 is great to use for all of the above too. The smaller screen means maybe somethings are just a little harder to see, but thats it. It fits in your pocket easier.
I think the best way to shop for one of these is to think about it like this: The 6 gives you a bigger screen than your 5, so if you want a bigger screen, the 6 is the way to go, and still have it fit into your pocket. It looks and feels like a phone.
The iPhone6s is for people want a smaller iPad. You get all the power in a pocket-sized device plus the added benefit of it having a phone.
I don't plan to buy either until next spring or unless I drop my iPhone 5 but when I do I will probably just for for the 6 and not the 6s.
