The crunch time is when/if we join the Euro. Even tho the UK economy is tini compared to the US, it's still the fourth largest in the world and having sterling consumed by the Euro will boost the Euro and pressure the dollar. That makes for an interesting future re: the two countries relationships after that. Would we goto war partly to protect the PetroDollar at the expense of the PetroEuro if we were a Euro country ? Interesting question...
Yes well of course if UK joins the Euro, the USA will be pissed. But to be honest, the USA has way too much of the world's wealth. particularly if you look at the money spent on the recent war. And, has it made a noticable dent in their economy? Nope. So, what it boils down to is greed.
